Twitter is fun today, part 2
@brandg: The part of zombie stories that nobody likes to talk about: Zombies make it okay to hate sick people.
@MollyRen: Dude, zombies aren't sick, they're *dead*.
@brandg: No. Dead people don't move. The undead, infected, irradiated. . . these are the zombies.
@grimdreaper: Well, maybe okay to AVOID sick people (or keep them behind bullet-proof glass.)
@brandg: Heh. In some movies, it's okay to shoot someone who gets an infected person's blood on them. How's that for survivor guilt? :)
@brandg: BTW, I don't mean to diss Zombie stories or those who love them. I just noticed that it's like an outlet for survivor's guilt.
@DDog: Lose an arm? Disability = death. Broken skin? Infection = death. Too slow/overweight? Fat = death. These are not pleasant memes.
@brandg: Yeah, as much as I love Zombieland, "Rule #1: Cardio" pissed me off.
@JSterlingS: why did that piss you off? it made sense in the context of the movie.
@brandg: The basic idea is that zombies kill people who can't run long distances. Yet, 9/10ths of all engagements were ended suddenly.
@brandg: Either by shotgun or facebites, zombie interaction is quick. The cardio rule was the writer's way of saying "No Fat Chicks".
@JSterlingS: personally it just reminded me about the old joke about out running a hungry bear.
@JSterlingS: 'i dont have to out run the bear i just have to out run you'
@DDog: Same meme, really. Those with most privilege win. Everyone else loses. Trained to push others down instead of band together.
@brandg: I wonder how different "Sean of the Dead" would have been if Simon Pegg told Nick Frost "You can't come with us. You'll slow us down."
@MollyRen: But the whole point of being a zombie is that they are dead and yet can still move! That's why they are unstoppable!
@brandg: So a person gets really sick, loses the ability to feel, speak, or think, has necrotic skin, and begins eating brains. What is he?
@MollyRen: A cannibal! I feel like this is really a geek argument: are zombies already dead or about to be dead? :p
@MollyRen: You also have to remember that zombies now have a special place in the internet cannon, like zombies and raptors and ninjas.
@MollyRen: I think they're now less of a metaphor for anything than an inside joke.
@brandg: I get that, but think of how common the "She's my mother, but I have to kill her" scene is in Zombie films.
@MollyRen: I thought it was more about a manifestation of how you can't trust *anyone*/apocalyptical survival narratives.
@MollyRen: Because yeah, you can "catch" being a zombie, but eating brains is the disconnect from real-life sickness.
@MollyRen: I'd think more major themes of sickness-hatred would be feared sharing in weakness, unattractiveness, loneliness, possible death...
@MollyRen: Zombies are too savage to be thought of as "ill".
@MollyRen: It's more like morphed, changed... like the X-men!
@brandg: "I am Legend" "28 Days Later" and "Sean of the Dead" would argue the "illness" point.

RE: trigger warnings
tranzient: queersecrets: answer: no 1: a trigger is subjective 2: pointless for anyone reading from the blog because text comes after the image anyway if you don’t like it unfollow and/or block from appearing — it’s that simple Why not just put the triggering secrets up as links? It’s not like depression/self harm is new in the GLBT community. Why alienate those persons by just telling them...
